❄️ Surprise Snowstorm Slows Calgary on November 24, 2025

Calgarians woke up to a snowy surprise this morning when a stronger-than-expected winter storm rolled into the city, covering streets, sidewalks, and rooftops with a thick blanket of white.

Forecasters had predicted snow, but the amount caught many people off guard. In several neighbourhoods, up to 10 centimetres fell during the morning rush hour, turning the city into a winter scene much earlier than some expected.

🌨️ What Happened?

The snow system moved in quickly overnight. By the time families were getting ready for school and work, flakes were already falling steadily, sticking to roads and making visibility tricky.

Traffic slowed to a crawl, and slippery conditions led to many minor crashes. Calgary Transit also put snow detours in place to help buses avoid hilly or hard-to-drive areas.

⛄ Pros of the Snowstorm

  • Calgary looked like a winter postcard. The fresh snow made everything sparkle.
  • Great snow for playing. Kids built snowmen, forts, and snowballs before school.
  • Cozy atmosphere. Families bundled up and enjoyed warm drinks on a chilly morning.

🚧 Cons of the Snowstorm

  • Traffic trouble. There were dozens of collisions due to icy roads.
  • Transit delays. Buses ran behind schedule because of detours and slow driving.
  • Airport issues. Flights at the Calgary Airport were delayed for de-icing and safety.

🛠️ How the City Responded

Road crews began clearing major routes early in the day, focusing on sanding, plowing, and keeping high-traffic areas safe. Officials reminded everyone to drive slowly, leave extra space between vehicles, and dress warmly for the cold conditions.

Even though the storm made Monday morning hectic for adults, many kids enjoyed a bit of unexpected winter fun.
